Testimonial
from Jason Carlson
The following is a testimonial from Jason Carlson at Sevenson Environmental Services. He is using OilSorb™ at a creosote superfund site. The flow rate is 170 gpm. using 20,000 lb of GAC in each of two vessels. COD is almost entirely SVOCs (with about 10-20 ppm benzene from time to time). Before they installed the OilSorb™, changeout of activated carbon took place every two weeks. Adding 19,000 lb of OilSorb™ extended the life to 4 months.
George,
Just thought you'd like an update on Biomin success.
Our latest COD's:
Influent=68 ppm
Biomin influent=49 ppm
Biomin Eff/GAC#1=19.5ppm
Lead GAC Eff=ND
Earlier tests have confirmed that Biomin's OilSorb™ is removing about 75% of COD. Before using Biomin we had a lead GAC breakthrough of 7-12 ppm. The reduced loading has taken that to ND levels, so we can be very sure the Lag GAC is catching all those stubborn phenols and SVOCs.
If you remember, before we were getting a lot of iron 3 in the effluent, and our TSS readings where getting up to 32-35 ppm, rather close to our permit limit of 40 ppm. All of it was converted iron (there is no way solids are going to get through 40,000 lb GAC). The latest effluent TSS was 3.0 ppm. This would indicate to me that the Biomin is oxidizing a lot of the iron (and hopefully other metals) on the front end. This is very obvious from the backwash color too.
So chalk up another one to OilSorb™ organophilic clay. It has allowed me to breathe a lot easier.
Thanks,
Jason Carlson
