RECYCLING WASTE WATER

Cut your GAC Costs 50% Pre-treat your water with Biomin EC-100 Organoclay

A BIOMIN CASE STUDY

Wash down water from a tank truck wash operation was flowing at 30 gpm, containing 5 ppm BTEX and 10 ppm oil. The client was changing the GAC SEVEN times a year, to be in compliance with Discharge Regulations.

The amount of carbon used was 35.71 ft3. GAC’s bulk density was 30 lb/ft3. Regenerated carbon costs $0.85/lb plus your change out problems.

Replacing 1071.3 lb spent carbon 7 times a year amounts to 7499.1 lb carbon, at a carbon cost of $6374.24/year.

If this carbon retained 7% of its weight in oil, for a total spent carbon weight of 8024 lb, the labor cost of replacing it, at $0.90/lb is $7221.60/year.

Total GAC cost media and changeouts was $13,595.84/year.

The BIOMIN Solution: Add an extra filter vessel with 2000 lb EC-100 organoclay in front of the GAC.

At $1.40/lb, organoclay replacement cost after one year service is $2,800. Labor cost for one changeout of 3200 lb spent EC-100 organoclay: $0.90 x 3200 lb = $2880.

Disposal cost of spent EC-100 organoclay: @ $0.25/lb: $800.

Total: $6,480. The GAC may not be spent at this time because the organoclay pre-treatment protects the GAC against oil fouling and early BTEX breakthrough.

COST SAVINGS PER YEAR BY PRE-TREATMENT WITH EC-100 ORGANOCLAY: $7115.84/year plus the disruptions to operations during SEVEN GAC change outs.
