User Benefits

Customers using the Biomin line of specially-treated organoclays and unique product systems benefit from the following:

  • Greater efficiency in the treatment process for the removal of oil, grease, heavy metals,

PCBs, Humic and Fulvic Acids, Polynuclear Aromatics, Polycyclic Aromatics,

Chlorinated Organics, sparingly soluble Hydrophobic Organics, and other organics.

  • A reduction in overall water treatment costs.  Biomin's products can lower operating

costs by 50% while bringing your facility into compliance with discharge requirements.

Our Products

OilSorb™

A highly versatile, organically-modified clay filtration product, OilSorb™ can be used as a stand-alone media for oil and grease removal or in combination with other treatment technologies as a pre-polisher.

For University of Virginia lab report on organoclay and the "Roll Off" phenomenon, See this report.

Clayfloc™

A line of flocculants that are useful in treating waste water streams of 50,000 gallons per month (or less).  They are able to remove oils, other organics and heavy metals simultaneously without the need for pre-treating with acids and salts.

ColorSorb™

An organically-modified clay that removes negatively-charged tannic and humic compounds that act as pre-cursors for trihalomethane (THM) formation.

EC-300

An activated carbon containing product useful in the elimination of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) from water.

EC-400

An activated carbon containing product , EC-400 is beneficial for the removal of acetone in water streams.

Filtration Systems

In addition to providing filtration media, Biomin has engineered filtration systems that economically remove oil from water.

Heavy Metals Removal

Results of column studies in the laboratory at the University of Virginia show the capacity of four natural sorbents to remove heavy metals from water. Bar charts for Oilsorb™ and EC-199 are included. Click here to see the Bar graph.

EC-MB (hydroxy-apatite, bone char) Click here to see the Bar graph.

To remove 5 aqueous anions from water This report presents Tables and Figures summarizing the results from studying the sorptive capacity of EC-MB Bone Char to 5 aqueous anion solutions.

This is a hydroxy-apatite derived from bone char. It is very effective for the removal of heavy metals. Its's strength lies in the fact that it resists the negative effects of hardness in the water on its ability to remove heavy metals. All other Sorbents do not have this capability, except for ion-specific resins, which are very costly.

Column tests have shown that EC-MB bone char can remove 0.5% of its weight of "ARSENATE" from water and fluoride are removed at 0.5% by weight. Some regeneration is possible. Ask us for the report.

Please note: It is advisable to add a tank of granular activated carbon after the EC-MB

EC-MCL (Zeolite) Click here to see the Bar graph.

Is a zeolite of the clinoptilolite type. Its main application is for the removal of ammonium, radioactive cesium and strontium, but also heavy metals from water. It is also extremely efficient for the removal of silver from photographic waste water. See this report

MERCSORB

This is a humic material used to remove mercury from waste water. 100 lb of Mercsorb removes as much as 3 lb of mercury.

PURPLE - HAZE

This is a zeolite sorbent used for AIR SCRUBBING AND OXIDATION OF GAS STREAMS. The purple granules of Purple Haze are placed on top of vapor phase carbon beds. A change in color indicates when break-through is occurring. See the Purple Haze report
